Stockton MRI Medical Center Inc. opened in August 1991 with the most advanced 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment available at the time from General Electric, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a global leader in medical imaging equipment. The original unit has been kept up with the advancements in MRI technology by undergoing several upgrades since the initial installation. Stockton MRI Medical Center was one of the first MRI centers in California to pass the rigorous requirements of the American College of Radiology for accreditation and continues to maintain its accreditation.

Later on, in 1996, we added a General Electric Spiral Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner to complement our commitment for high resolution cross sectional imaging.

The Indomitable Positional Stand-up Open MRI from Fonar Corporation, Melville, N.Y. was added to our imaging armamentarium in November 2002. This is a very ingenious invention and probably the most interesting development since the invention of MRI itself. It is the only MRI machine that patient can have his/her MRI study done in lying down, standing or sitting up position. It is truly an open MRI machine with patient walking into the machine. It is of interest to note that Fonar was one of the first companies to engineer MRI equipment in late 1970s.

In summer of 2003, a major restructuring of our imaging center was undertaken. We added a new building for housing a state of the art PET - CT, the first one in northern California, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasonography. Accordingly we extended our name to: Stockton MRI & Molecular Imaging Medical Center, Inc.

Stockton MRI & Molecular Imaging Medical Center is headed by board certified radiologists Javad Jamshidi, M.D. and Jack L. Funamura, M.D, and a board certified nuclear medicine physician Francis Isidoro, M.D. Dr. Jamshidi was one of the first radiologists to get involved in MRI in our community and was formerly the director of San Joaquin Magnetic Resonance Center in Stockton from its inception in 1986 through 1991.
